For the first time in the theatre’s recent history, Belvoir will stage two ambitious productions in repertory. Presented as alternating performance of two plays, Alana Valentine’s brand-new 'Wayside Bride' and Caryl Churchill’s classic 'Light Shining in Buckinghamshire' feature the same cast, on the same set, written by two legendary women. Together “in rep”, they present a brilliant theatrical vision of the age-old struggle for a fairer society. The rep season runs from 2nd April to 28th May 2022, where theatre will become 1970s Kings Cross one night, and Civil War England the next.
The classic work 'Light Shining in Buckinghamshire', by Caryl Churchill completes the Rep Season. Set during the English Civil War, it tells of the ordinary people who went into battle for the soul of the nation. Incendiary, pulsing with ideas and poetically-heightened speech, speaking of the revolution that never happened, and some ghosts it left behind.
