Opening night event Friday 28 May, 6 pm, running until the 25th June 2021.
Distinctly unlike the often clinical white-walled gallery experience, INNOMINATE conflates art, architecture and the urban landscape with video to challenge the traditional art exhibition ideology. Curated by Sandra Murray.
The interpretations comprise a series of emotionally charged mixed media works. Scribbled ramblings from the artist’s journal glimpse between layers of deconstructed photographs, spray paint and gaffa tape. Mural-style works transform external walls of the building, leading viewers inside. A darkened room plays host to video and large works on board. Billboard style posters and smaller works on card are sectioned with paint in a separate room. The integration of banal objects heightens curiosity and adds context to the works.
'As an inner-city dweller, I am interested in photographing scenes of the unremarkable. I find quiet beauty in the ugliness of the ordinary. A narrative of exposing the anonymous unfolds through manipulation, the rhythmic repetition and overlapping of imagery gouges beyond the superficial.'
Accompanying the exhibition is the release of a limited edition 48 page book containing exhibition works, digital compositions and poetry. The exhibition runs until Friday 25 June 2021. Check Facebook for opening days/hours.
The project has been made possible thanks to funding through the City of Stirling’s Community Creativity Fund.
Supported by the Civic Hotel, Inglewood.
