What promises to be a lively event is a conversation between Aliza Chin, Batchelor of Arts (Hon) University of Sydney, whose thesis studied impacts of the Tiananmen Square incident of 1989 on Sydney's Chinese community; Juanita Kwok, a doctoral student at Charles Sturt University, whose thesis examines the Chinese community in Bathurst from 1849 to 1953; and Special Guest Margaret Yung Kelley, who will recount some of her experiences of Shanghai during the 1930s and life in Australia after 1950.
Included will be a scholastic discussion concerning the benefits and drawbacks of oral history research. This is a highly-anticipated talk aspiring to capture real voices for posterity, sharing real experiences and thoughts on a wide range of topics within a multicultural context through a slice of history.
Margaret Yung Kelley is well known in the Sydney Chinese Australian Community and is also President of the Australian Chinese Friendship Society.
